The protection of personal data has always been of central importance to the Volkshochschule Aachen. We are consequently continuing our commitment to data protection with the application of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), compliance with the common European data protection principles, and the collection and use of your personal data in accordance with the provisions of the GDPR and the national data protection laws. In the following, we explain which personal data we collect during your visit to our website and how it is processed/used. All data transmission is encrypted.
With regard to the terms used, such as “data controller” or “personal data”, we refer to the definitions in Art. 4 of the GDPR.

Data transfer when visiting this website
When you access our website, your Internet browser automatically transmits the following data to our web server:
- Date and time of access
- URL of the referring website
- Browser type and version
- Operating system used
We use the access data for the continuous improvement of our online services and content, for statistical purposes and for our own market research. This is carried out in compliance with Art. 6 (1)(e) GDPR for the performance of tasks that we are required to perform in the interest of the public.
Tracking
We use the WPStatistics system (https://wp-statistics.com) to analyse traffic to our website. No personal data is used for this purpose. The IP address is anonymised immediately after processing and therefore cannot be used to identify persons.
Cookies:
To extend the functional scope of our online services and content and to make them more user-friendly for you, we use so-called “cookies”. These “cookies” are small text files that verifiably do not contain malicious code and can be saved on your computer whenever you visit our website. The cookies we use exclusively control our website functions and do not pass on any data to other parties. You can use the requisite settings in your browser to prevent cookies from being saved on your computer, to allow cookies only in particular cases, or to activate the automatic deletion of cookies when you close the browser. However, deactivating the cookies can restrict the scope of our website functions.
Social media buttons
We offer social media buttons to share the content of our online services via social networks. In this case we use the “c’t Shariff” solution, which makes these social media buttons available in compliance with data protection regulations. The buttons offered directly by the operators of social networks inadmissibly transmit personal data such as IP address or entire cookies as soon as a website on which they are integrated is opened, and in this way provide precise information about your surfing behaviour to the social media without requesting your permission. You do not need to be logged in or a member of the respective network. A Shariff button, on the other hand, establishes direct contact between the social network and the visitor only when the visitor actively clicks on the share button. In this way, Shariff prevents you from leaving a digital trail on every page you visit and improves data protection. By using Shariff, we can protect your personal data and still integrate buttons for social sharing.
YouTube
We use YouTube on our internet site. YouTube is an Internet video portal that allows video publishers to post video clips that can be viewed, rated and commented on by other users free of charge. YouTube allows all types of videos to be broadcast, which is why complete film and television programmes as well as music videos, trailers or videos made by the users themselves can be accessed via this Internet portal. It is a video portal of YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave, 94066 San Bruno, CA, USA, hereinafter referred to as “YouTube”.
YouTube is a subsidiary of Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 USA, hereinafter referred to as “Google”.
Through certification according to the EU-US Privacy Shield https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt000000001L5AAI&status=Active, Google and its subsidiary YouTube guarantee compliance with EU data protection requirements when data is being processed in the USA.
Your rights according to EU GDPR
As a user of our Internet offer, you are entitled under Art. 15 GDPR, free of charge and without giving reasons, to request information from us at any time concerning your personal data that has been saved.
If data processing takes place on the basis of personal consent, you have the right under Art. 7 (3) DS-GVO to revoke this consent without giving reasons. This only applies to the future use of your data, not to its past use.
According to Art. 16, 17, 18 GDPR, you can correct, delete or block your data that has been collected by us at any time if, in your opinion, your data is incorrect or if there is no longer any reason for processing. Furthermore, according to Art. 20 GDPR, you have the right to be provided with your personal data in a machine-readable format, on the condition that you made the data available by way of consent or on the basis of a contract, and that this data was previously processed by means of an automated procedure. You may also object to data processing carried out pursuant to Art. 6 (1)(e) GDPR for the performance of a task in the interest of the public or in exercising official authority pursuant to Art. 21 DS-GVO. You can request these rights from the data controller(s) by post or by email to the data controller(s). Finally, we would like to draw your attention to your right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR.
