• Requirements analysis
The analysis consists of two stages. In the first stage, the prevailing political, social and historical framework conditions as well as selected aspects of integration work in the respective sub-regions will be examined and compared. The further education and training requirements in the Meuse-Rhine region Euregio will then be assessed in the second stage. For this purpose, existing programmes and curricula will be reviewed and actors from the field interviewed. The analysis will be conducted by the University of Liège (CEDEM Institute).

On November 18, 2019, the institute CEDEM held an event together with the lead partner VHS Aachen in Liège. The results of the context and practical analysis were presented, as well as the ongoing conceptual work on the training program TREE.
• Further education and training modules
The project partners will work together to develop further education and training modules on the basis of the requirements identified and under the didactic/methodological leadership of the University of Liège (Institut LabSet). Up to 60 volunteer and full-time refugee helpers from the fields of social work, education and medicine will subsequently be trained in the Meuse-Rhine Euregio. The training module content focuses on general key competences, which can be divided into three categories:
- Strengthening competencies to facilitate intercultural exchange with refugees and migrants and raise awareness for the demands of working with traumatized people
- Strengthen competencies that facilitate guidance and support with regard to the integration process and the requisite steps to be taken
- Strengthen competences that facilitate resilience, self-reflection and the ability to set boundaries with regard to everyday work
In addition, a pool of interpreters will be established for the social area. These volunteers will be qualified by means of a subject-specific module. The training target group is primarily immigrants and refugees with the goal of enabling them to play an important key role in the integration process themselves, and also to improve their prospect of social inclusion in the long term.

• Dialogue events
The dialogue events, which will take place in all sub-regions, serve primarily to bring the general public into contact with immigrants and refugees. The goal is to bring these two groups closer together through targeted actions, to create exchange and eliminate prejudices. These events should not only make enriching differences between people visible but also the common ground and similarities they share.

Events at which project results are presented, general publications, specialised press and the use of social media will draw attention to the project’s objectives.
